How We Loot

Our guild, like most guilds, leverages the use of RCLootCouncil to distribute loot to our raid team. This comes with a host of advantages I’m sure you’re all well aware of, so I won’t blather on about them; however, I will provide some context on how you’ll interface with things on your side when an item drops you’d like to claim as your own.

Setup

To set things up on your end, simply download the addon using your installer of choice. WoWUp with CurseForge or Curseforge Standalone (for the love of all that is holy, do not use the Overwolf client) are both solid options. Everything has been configured on our side to where you should be able to just show up to raid and things will work out of the box. Optionally, you may set constraints on which items you auto pass for in the General tab of the addon. Below are the settings I currently use. To access the settings, use the “/rclc config” slash command in game.

I’d recommend replicating these exactly with the exception of transmog if you’d like to still be eligible to roll on items for transmog that don’t qualify as usable by your character. Simply uncheck “Auto Pass Transmog” and those items will again show for you.

Operation

If your settings match mine from the above screenshot, things should be a breeze when looting starts. Just press the buttons in the RCLC frame for what you’d like to do with each piece of loot presented to you. But if something goes weird, and you see the standard Blizzard loot frame, just pass using the nice little 🚫 button. We want every player to pass so that all loot will be given to Justin to distribute.

Our Buttons

With setup and basic operation precautions out of the way, let’s move on to what you’ll see when items appear that you’re eligible for in our raids. Below is a picture of the four possible configurations we use.

In order, they are:

  • General: For everything that isn’t special
    • BIS: This item will not be replaced until the next level of difficulty in the raid
    • Mainspec: This item is a damage improvement for your character’s main specialization, but there are items from other bosses or sources that could yield higher gains
    • Offspec: Items that will provide gains to an offspec for your class. This will be more seriously considered if you’re someone who plays an offspec in raid
    • Transmog: You want more frilly dresses to play dress up with
    • Pass: You swipe left on the item 💔
  • Necklaces, Rings, and Trinkets
  • Non-Tier: Items that share a slot with tier but aren’t
    • 4pc: Catalyzing this item would complete your 4 piece set bonus
    • 2pc: Catalyzing this item would complete your 2 piece set bonus
    • 1/3/5pc (specify): Using the note feature on the far right side of the frame, specify what this piece would bring your tier count to if you used a catalyst charge on it
  • Tier

Other Factors

  • We will rotate two players in to serve as additional council members every two weeks during the tier. This will allow every raider the chance to have a say in where loot goes. All players (officers included) are prohibited from voting for themselves on loot.
  • BoEs will be sold to aid in funding raid compulsory costs (food, flasks, vantus runes, etc.) with a portion of the profit going directly to the player that looted it. This will be a 70/30 split, with the guild receiving the larger part of the share. This will be up for debate if a specific BoE is part of a player’s best-in-slot list (mythic only). Any major recipes (cauldrons for example) will be kept in the guild for use in raids.
  • If you’re expecting a boss to die on a given evening that has a piece of loot you have your eye on, it’s highly advisable to have enchants and/or jewelry slots/gems ready to use on the item before showing up for raid. While usability of mounts is pretty commonplace in raids now, there will still be areas within the instance where you won’t be able to jump on Longneck Larry the dinosaur to grab what you need from the auction house.
  • Mounts will be given out based on attendance and participation in the guild throughout the tier

Sweet, I Won

After voting concludes and items have been appointed to raiders, find the loot master (usually Justin) and open the trade window. RCLC will auto add the item to the trade window and he’ll just have to confirm the trade. After that happens, you can be on your merry way.

What’s BIS?

We recognize that the concept of a BIS list is at its core something of an antiquated idea. However, it does prove as a useful tool for quickly determining based on class leaders’ opinions what items in general are going to have the best chance of staying on your character for longer. As silly as it might be, Wowhead BIS lists are what we rely on to inform this. Usage of the BIS button outside of that case is strongly discouraged, and you should have an excellent reason for doing so.
